Self-neutralizing solutions are not for everyone. These specialized solutions target stubborn discolorations, rough texture, and scars with the intent to visibly peel and slough away dead skin, and downtime may range from seven to ten days.
Before administering this type of peel, the skin must be prepped at least two weeks in advance because they have the potential to offer superficial to mid-depth exfoliation. For example, if a client’s acne is not managed with the right home care, the results will be minimal or the client may experience more breakouts as a result of over-stimulation. The same holds true for some types of hyperpigmentation.
Treatment times for these peel solutions is typically 30 minutes and, once applied, the client must leave his/her skin completely dry for 12 to 24 hours for optimal peel penetration. Steam, sweat, humidity and cleansing will prematurely neutralize the solution.
